Asset Integrity Chemicals

Protecting Your Asset in the Oil & Gas Industry

In the oil and gas industry, maintaining asset integrity is essential for ensuring safety, reliability, and long-term operational efficiency. Factors such as corrosion, microbiological activity, and exposure to corrosive gases can compromise equipment and infrastructure, leading to costly downtime and environmental risks.

Effective asset integrity management—both mechanical and chemical—is crucial for protecting facilities, whether offshore or onshore. Specialty chemicals play a key role in preserving assets, extending service life, and optimizing performance.

Corrosion Inhibitors

Protect your metal assets from corrosion with SURFGARD® C Series Corrosion Inhibitors. Ensure operational efficiency and extend asset lifespan.

Our SURFGARD Corrosion Inhibitors (CIs) are specialty chemicals designed to protect metals from corrosion by forming a protective barrier between the metal surface and its environment. They work through chemical adsorption (chemisorption) or by creating a protective film that prevents corrosive reactions. Depending on the characteristics of the processed fluid, CIs are categorized as Liquid Corrosion Inhibitors (LCI), Gas Corrosion Inhibitors (GCI), Gas Compressor Corrosion Inhibitors (GCCI), and Antifoulants. Our SURFGARD CIs also offer High Pressure and High Temperature applications.

Functions & Applications

CIs are essential in oil and gas processing to protect internal metal surfaces from electrolyte-induced corrosion. Depending on the application, they are categorized as:

  • Filming Corrosion Inhibitors – Organic-based inhibitors that form a protective layer, ideal for hydrocarbon and produced water treatment.
  • Passive Corrosion Inhibitors – Inorganic-based inhibitors used in low-salinity environments, such as cooling water systems.

Performance Testing

To ensure effectiveness, our CIs undergo various tests, including Bubble or Kettle Test, Rotating Cylinder Electrode (RCE) & Rotating Disc Electrode (RDE), Jet Impingement Test, High-Shear Autoclave & Rotating Cage Test, Flow Loop Test, Wheel Test, and Static Test

Proper CI selection and testing ensure optimal protection, extending equipment lifespan and enhancing operational efficiency. Engage us for reliable Corrosion Inhibitors that safeguard your assets and enhance operational efficiency.

Biocides

Combat microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC) and biofouling with Lamurindo’s SURFGARD® B Series Biocides. Ensure smooth operations and protect your assets.

Biocides are specialty chemicals used to mitigate Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC) and prevent biofouling in oil and gas operations. They work by inhibiting bacterial growth and disrupting cell membranes or metabolic processes, preventing the formation of harmful bacterial colonies.

In oil and gas environments, bacteria are classified based on their oxygen requirements as aerobic (oxygen-dependent) or anaerobic (thriving without oxygen). They can also exist as planktonic (free-floating in liquids) or sessile (attached to biofilms on pipe walls and vessels).

Applications in Oil & Gas

Biocides play a critical role in upstream and downstream operations, including drilling, fracturing, well treatment, and water processing. They help reduce H₂S, sulfide scale, biofouling, and MIC, ensuring smooth fluid flow, corrosion prevention, and improved productivity. The largest use of biocides is in water injection projects, such as seawater injection for formation pressure maintenance and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).

Types of Biocides

Lamurindo offer provides two main types:

  • Oxidizing Biocides (Non-Organic) – Kill microorganisms through oxidation and are highly effective against Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria (SRB), the leading cause of MIC. Common compounds include chlorine, bromine, and peroxide.
  • Non-Oxidizing Biocides (Organic) – Disrupt bacterial cell function with minimal corrosive impact, and some even inhibit corrosion. They are commonly based on amines, aldehydes, cationic polymers, azoles, carbamates, and cationic surfactants.

By selecting the right biocide, oil and gas operations can effectively control microbial contamination, enhance asset integrity, and optimize production efficiency.

H2S Scavengers

Remove toxic H2S from oil and gas systems with Lamurindo’s SURFGARD® H Series H2S Scavengers. Ensure safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Protecting Assets from Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) Corrosion

Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is a highly toxic and corrosive gas that presents serious safety, environmental, and operational challenges in oil and gas production. It reacts with iron in wells and pipelines, leading to:

  • Pitting corrosion
  • Stress cracking
  • Iron sulfide scale formation

To meet safety regulations and product quality standards, H₂S must be removed from natural gas and crude oil. H₂S Scavengers chemically react with H₂S to neutralize its effects, preventing corrosion and ensuring operational efficiency.

Chemical Bases of H₂S Scavengers

  • Amines & Aldehydes
  • Aldehyde-Amine combinations
  • Metal carboxylates & chelates
  • Advanced chemistries

Our SURFGARD® H₂S Scavengers are specifically designed to effectively mitigate H₂S-related risks, ensuring asset integrity and compliance with industry standards.

O2 Scavengers

Eliminate dissolved oxygen from oil and gas systems with Lamurindo’s SURFGARD® O Series O2 Scavengers. Prevent corrosion and protect your assets.

Dissolved oxygen (O₂) in water can cause severe corrosion in pipelines, process equipment, and injection systems. Over time, O₂ corrosion leads to:

  • Metal deterioration and equipment damage
  • Deposition and clogging due to corrosion byproducts

To prevent these issues, O₂ Scavengers are used to remove oxygen from oilfield fluids, ensuring smooth operation and extended equipment lifespan.

Applications of O₂ Scavengers

  • Seawater injection facilities
  • Hydrotesting (pressure testing of pipelines and vessels)
  • Acid stimulation processes

The oxygen removal process reduces dissolved O₂ levels from ~8 ppm to <10 ppb (preferably <5 ppb) to effectively prevent corrosion.

Chemical Bases of O₂ Scavengers

  • Sulfite salts & derivatives
  • Amines, polyhydroxy compounds, aldehydes
  • Inorganic sodium salts

By using the right O₂ Scavenger, oil and gas operations can prevent corrosion-related failures, optimize fluid flow, and maintain asset reliability.
